The Department of Electronic Systems (DES) in conjunction with its brothers departments of Information Systems and Computer Science, despite being the newest departments within the Center for Basic Sciences, have their origins in the Department of Information Technology created in 1982. In 1998, derived from the departmental growth by the administration of multiple undergraduate careers and providing support in the area to all the computer subjects of the institution, as well as the newly created Master’s Degree in Computing and Computational Technologies, in the year of In 1998 the decision was made to divide the Department of Information Technology in the Department of Electronic Systems and in the Department of Information Systems. Later in the year of 2008, once again separating the area of ​​Artificial Intelligence from the Department of Electronic Systems, the creation of the Department of Computer Sciences was created.

Currently the department offers students who graduate from high school for their professional training: the program of Computer Systems Engineer, created in 1982 with the foundation of the Department of Informatics, career that maintains its presence and quality by leaving an average of 80 professionals annually; for the year of 1995 the program of Engineer in Electronics and Digital Communication Systems is offered, which since 2003, due to the graduation profile that is offered, changed its name to Electronic Engineering. In addition to providing academic support to 11 other undergraduate educational programs and the Doctorate of Applied Sciences and Technology.

Additionally, in its history there are periods in which both specialties such as masters and doctorates have been offered, which are currently undergoing restructuring. In these three generations of the Specialty in Computer Networks graduated, a generation of the Direct Doctorate in Computer Science.
